French society, culture and literature II

The course is divided into two units:
a) French Society and Culture
b) French Literature

French society and culture: selected chapters from French history; Institutions; Political system; Legal system; Economy. Students are made aware of frequent translation problems, especially culture-specific terms.

French literature: An overview of French literature of the 19th and the 20th centuries. Students learn about the literary and historical categories of French literature and are able to place it within the context of European literature. They learn about the basic periods in French literature, as well as literary movements, authors, and their works.
