The course introduces to the students a linguistic analysis of different types of written texts and spoken interactions based on the principles of textuality, which is the elementary factor for a successful written and spoken communication and the transmission of a message to the addressee.
By means of discourse analysis of different types of texts, students become aware of the principles of cohesion and coherence in English and learn how to produce texts meeting all the requirements of textuality. They become aware of different types of styles and genres of writing, as well as with the main differences between written and spoken communication. They become familiar with the discourse structure of different types of spoken interaction. By means of contrastive analysis, the students are encouraged to think about the differences and similarities in the production of written and spoken texts in English and Slovene, as well as to develop a critical evaluation of textuality of written and spoken means of communication.
