Indo-European dialectology deals with the division of the Indo-European language environment and the correspondences between individual Indo-European languages, whose formation can be dated to the period after the breakup of Proto-Indo-European. It explores whether these correspondences are the result of the differentiation of Proto-Indo-European or whether they are younger. This course focuses on the applicability of comparative linguistics as an auxiliary historical discipline. The emphasis is on theory. Students learn basic concepts, such as exclusive innovation, and the issues related to them, and get to know the typical errors made in proving dialectal connections or linguistic areals.
